While growing up, there was this woman in our local church, she was full of wisdom and she possessed an amazing comportment, I wanted to be like her. Infact I started copying the way she walked, the way she speaks, even her dance steps. She was a "role model" to me, though I later understood she was a bit full of herself, and I couldn't copy that. When a person is a role model, it means the person is one you find worthy to copy, the person is an example of how you want to be, it could be generally or in a specific area of your life.
A mentor on the other hand is a wise and trusted teacher, whose advice and opinions you listen to and live by. Who you frequently go to for his or her opinion or advise on a personal experience you presently face. And you tend to trust their judgment and live by it. Now think about that person who constantly advise you and you try to obey, or think about that person that you usually try to copy in your dressing or way of speaking and acting.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TAKING ADVICE OR COPYING A PERSON'S WAYS.
1. KNOW THAT HUMANS ARE IMPERFECT CREATURES
Yes, know that! Nobody knows it all, Even the Bible says in the Book of Proverbs 7 vs 20 "There is no one on earth who does what is right all the time and never makes a mistake."GNT. So before trying to copy you fellow human being, check well to make sure you are not copying the wrong set of things, or listening to a bad advice. An instance where some young guys, try to imitate a singer's way of dressing, by pulling down their trousers so low that their inner wear is made public, or an instance where a girl copies the ways of a particular 'successful' female singer and decides to wear blouses that exposes half of her breast. This type of dressing attracts the wrong audience, it may be an unserious guy that is just looking to have sexual fun, and leave you heart broken. While copying people, it is better you copy the right things and discard the bad ones, it is good to learn from people's good example.
Though some people prefer to behave by themselves without copying from others, if you decide to have a role model or a mentor be careful to take only what appears good and discard the bad ones, as no human is Perfect.
To be Cont'd.
It is not a waste of money to take your children through standard schools, especially primary and secondary school. Their ways of reasoning and speaking, are mainly affected by their interaction and training in these periods of their lives. It is not a bad idea for your child to attend boarding schools also, especially those schools that have high level of discipline and care. Boarding school makes them to have stronger personalities, to be independent-decision-makers. And give them focus, and a sense of purpose. It has it disadvantages also, which might be that the child may join bad companies. However the chance of a well trained Godly child to escape from bad company, is high. I didn't consider it. Being bullied may be another disadvantage, but this one could act to make the child stronger and to device means to overcome the act of being bullied. The burden to inculcate good virtues, beliefs and values into them, is solely on the parents. Which should be done daily and inten...
